Changing Web Hosts, Step by Step We thank you for considering Custom Sites for your web hosting needs. Whether
you are changing because of poor service, bad support or looking for a cheaper hosting
company, there are some things that come to mind that you need to be aware of
“up front” when switching web hosts.
We have outlined a plan for making this transition as simple
as possible. Please, read and try to understand the information
enclosed in this document, it will only ensure a smooth transition
to us.
After reading the information contained, you will probably
feel a little overwhelmed.
We can understand, we specialize in these services everyday
and we know you don’t otherwise you would not be here
right now reading this information. So, if you have any problems
or would like for Custom Sites to handle the transition for
you – we can do that for a processing fee of $50.00’s.
We will need information from you to handle the change-over;
we will contact you and keep you updated through the process.
If you are in the Tulsa or outlying regions, contact us for
a service call
to your office if you need assistance in setting up your e-mail
accounts on your local computers.
Step 1: Choosing the right hosting plan
Please evaluate our pricing plans and pick the one that fits
your needs, you
can upgrade at anytime to a different plan.
Step 2: Backing up or copying your web site
Now you need to backup your existing website from your current
host. You
don’t need to let your current host know that you are
transferring your
account elsewhere, hosting companies tend not to respond once
they get
wind of you changing your services elsewhere. This can be
a frustrating
process and timely if this happens. You want to keep them
happy until
your site is completely moved and the services are running
parallel.
Step 3: Upload your web site to Custom Sites
Once you have received your new customer information packet,
you can log
into your account to upload your web site to our servers.
To log in to your
account you will need to FTP the files. Once you are satisfied
that everything
is working move to step 4.
Step 4: Setting up E-mail addresses
In your information packet you will find the url address to
manage your
e-mail accounts. If your site has not been transferred then
you will need
to navigate to http://mail.custom-sites.net:8383 and logon
to your account
with your full e-mail address – ex: username@domain.com
with your
password. Once you are logged in to the account administration
tool, you
will need to choose User Administration from the Menu. Follow
the prompts
on the following screens, self explanatory in setting up the
accounts. On-line
help is available also if you need it.
Step 5: Changing your DNS
For the new domain name customers, you can skip this step.
Other
customers will need to change your DNS over to Custom Sites.
Custom Sites
utilizes NO-IP.COM for our DNS server solution. Basically
NO-IP is prepared
by having 2 servers, 1 primary and 1 backup in three different
regions of the
world, this company specializes in DNS services, this is the
most guaranteed
and fastest when making changes, takes around 5 minutes world
wide for
the changes to be seen.
To change your DNS Servers, you need to go to your domain
name registrar
to have your domain redirected from the current name servers
to the ones
listed below. You can make these changes by logging into your
account
with your registrar and changing DNS Servers.
You will need to set your DNS to the following:
NS1.CUSTOM-SITES.NET 67.67.24.1
NS2.CUSTOM-SITES.NET 67.67.24.2
During this period we advise you that you should not make
changes to your website.
Step 6: Moving your e-mail
Until the change-over is completed world-wide you can expect
to receive
e-mails to your old web hosting company and on your new accounts.
We
suggest that you setup the new e-mail account parallel to
your existing
e-mail account, this ensures you not to miss any e-mails during
the
transition period. Don’t worry the e-mails that you
are sending are still
coming from you, it just may land in either spot during the
72hr transition
period.
Step 7: Canceling your old web host
After waiting 1-2 weeks to ensure that your new site is up
and running,
you can terminate your existing web host account.
